  • Arabic Music (Arabic Music Composition – History of Arabic Music)

Admission Requirements for the Ph.D.

  • The applicant must hold a Master’s degree in Music Education from an accredited Egyptian university or an equivalent degree from a recognized institution.
  • The applicant must submit the documents required by the University Council upon the recommendation of the Faculty Council.

Required Documents for Registration

  • Original Bachelor’s degree certificate with an overall grade (Good, Very Good, or Excellent).
  • Original transcript of the five-year academic record with a minimum grade of Very Good in major subjects.
  • Original birth certificate + copy of the national ID card.
  • Certificate of good conduct.
  • Original military service status (Final Exemption – Temporary Exemption – Completed Service).
  • Personal photo.
  • Original Master’s degree certificate + transcript of Master’s courses.
  • A certificate indicating that the applicant holds the position of Assistant Lecturer if appointed at the Faculty of Music Education.
  • Application must be submitted through the Ibn Al-Haytham platform at: http://pgs.helwan.edu.eg

All required documents must be uploaded to the Ibn Al-Haytham platform. Upon acceptance, the student pays the fees and submits the original documents to the Postgraduate Studies Office.

Study System

  • The program follows the credit hour system.
  • To obtain the Ph.D., a total of 48 credit hours must be completed according to the study plan of each department. These are distributed as follows: 24 credit hours of coursework and 24 credit hours of independent studies related to the Ph.D. thesis, with successful defense. The student must also fulfill the language and computer proficiency requirements as determined by the University Council.
  • The minimum academic load per semester is 6 credit hours, and the maximum is 12 credit hours.
  • The minimum duration for completing the Ph.D. is six main semesters, and the maximum is eight semesters.

Ph.D. Degree Award Requirements

  • Submission of 4 signed copies of the thesis approved by the committee, the Vice Dean for Postgraduate Studies, and the Faculty Dean, with the official seal + 2 CDs containing the full thesis + 1 CD with the thesis, Arabic abstract, and English abstract.
  • One copy of the thesis must be sent to the Library of Alexandria along with 1 CD of the full thesis, 1 CD with the thesis, Arabic and English abstracts, and a payment receipt to the university’s central library.
  • The full thesis must also be sent via email to the digital library, and the receipt must be presented to collect the thesis.
  • Submission of a collective report + individual reports from each committee member, typed and signed separately, with no similarity in content + an 8-line summary typed on a computer.
  • Submission of the original Digital Transformation Certificate obtained from Helwan University.
