Admission and Registration

1. Admission

The admission requirements are determined by the regulations issued by the Supreme Council of Universities and both the University and Faculty Councils. Applicants must pass the aptitude test with a minimum score of 60% in the same year of application.

The admission to the Music Art program is based on the following criteria:

Students holding a General Secondary Education Certificate of both tracks may apply, as well as those with foreign certificates or equivalent secondary school diplomas from Arab countries, provided that no more than three years have passed since obtaining the certificate. Preferably graduates of schools where English is the first foreign language.

  • Students transferring from the Higher Institute of Arabic Music or the Conservatoire as well as those from other universities affiliated with the Supreme Council of Universities are accepted, provided passing the aptitude test.
  • Students holding a higher education degree from a recognized university, provided that no more than ten years have passed since graduation.
  • Students enrolled in any level of the Music Education program may transfer to the Music Art program at the beginning of the academic year, provided they begin at the second level.
  • Students who have completed the preparatory stage of the Music Education program may transfer to the second level of the Music Art program. If the student fails the preparatory stage, they may still transfer but will start from the first level.

2. Registration

The student shall coordinate with the academic advisor using designated forms and procedures to carry out the following:

  • Adding one or more courses within the first two weeks from the beginning of the semester.
  • Dropping one or more courses within the first four weeks from the beginning of the semester.
  • After completing the course registration, the student may withdraw from one or more registered courses within the first 8 weeks of the semester, provided that the total number of registered credit hours does not fall below the minimum required (9 credit hours per semester). In this case, the student shall not be considered as having failed the withdrawn courses and will be given a "Withdrawn" grade.
  • If the student withdraws from any course after the specified withdrawal period, a "Fail" grade will be assigned for those courses.
  • To be eligible to sit for the final exam, the student must attend no less than 75% of the lectures in each course. If the student exceeds 25% absence without an acceptable excuse, the College Council may prevent the student from taking the final exam for that course after issuing a warning. In such cases, a score of zero will be recorded for the final exam of that course.
  • If the student fails to attend the final exam of a course due to a compelling excuse accepted by the College Council, and submits that excuse within two days of the exam date, an "Incomplete" grade will be assigned—provided the student was not previously denied access to the final exam due to absenteeism.
  • In such cases, the student granted an "Incomplete" grade will be allowed to take a make-up exam within one month from the beginning of the following semester. The final grade for the course will be calculated based on the make-up exam score, added to the previously obtained coursework grade.
  • The College Council reserves the right to designate certain courses to be studied remotely using technological means approved by the Council.

Academic System

The student coordinates with the academic advisor through specific forms and procedures as follows:

  • Adding one or more academic courses within the first two weeks of the semester.
  • Dropping one or more courses within the first four weeks of the semester.
  • Students may withdraw from one or more courses within the first eight weeks of the semester, provided that the total registered credit hours do not fall below the minimum required for the semester (9 credit hours). In this case, students will not fail the withdrawn courses but will receive a “Withdrawn” grade instead.
  • If a student withdraws from one or more courses after the due date, will receive a “Fail” grade in those courses.
  • To be allowed to take the final exam, students must attend at least 75% of the lectures for each course. If a student exceeds 25% absence without a valid excuse, the Faculty Council may prevent them from taking the exam after issuing a warning.
  • If a student presents a valid excuse accepted by the Faculty Council for missing the final exam in any course within two days, they will receive an “Incomplete” grade for that course, if they are not already barred from taking the exam. In this case, the student can take the exam of that course within one month from the beginning of the following semester and the final grade will be calculated based on the score obtained, in addition to the previously earned coursework marks.
  • The Faculty Council has the right to designate certain courses that may be studied remotely through technological means determined by them.
